Hello from the National Junior Beta Club Chapter at Mary, Mother of the Redeemer School in North Wales, PA.
Our club has been very active in their service projects this year which I can share with you:
Operation Santa Claus-(Nov-Dec) students organized publicity for this campaign as well as came in early each school morning for 4 weeks to collect and pack donated gifts for the needy. This event was sponsored by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. We collected 154 new toys for children.
American Cancer Society- (March) students are preparing a basket of "goodies" to sell chances at school lunches during the 2nd week of March. Winner gets basket and American Cancer Society gets $. Beta Club members sign up volunteers to give up recess and/or lunch time to sell chances.
Red Cross Blood Drive- (Feb)Beta members scheduled themselves to baby-sit for 1 hour increments while adults donated blood. They also wrote thank you cards to all participants.
Ronald McDonald House- Beta members have an on-going collection schedule beginning in September, to collect pop tabs from homerooms to be donated to the Ronald McDonald House in April or May. Last year, we arranged a trip for Beta Members to go the House to deliver the pop tabs and have a tour.
MMR Winter Social- (Jan.) Beta members volunteered their time to do face painting at the social, which in turn, raised money for the MMR Home and School Association.
Induction- (Jan.) This was held Jan. 30th in our school. Parents and family members attended as well as 5-8th grade student body. It was beautiful! We inducted 39 new members.
La Salle Academy (Oct-Nov)- Students organized and executed a "dress down day" for students which cost $.50 to raise funds to donate CD players and calculators to La Salle-which we were very successful. Due to their advertising efforts, many students donated more than the $.50. La Salle Academy is an inner city school in Phila. which provides an education for poor, abandoned, etc. children. A trip is planned to take the 8th grade Beta members to la Salle Academy for the day.
