Service Project Update

The Service Project contest highlights the motto of The National Beta Club, "Let Us Lead by Serving Others". The schools participating in this contest exhibited the value of helping to make their school and community a better place by performing such tasks as conducting a book fair/open house; sponsoring and American Cancer Society Relay for Life; distributing food in a canned food drive; decorating the school for the fall; helping to conduct Project Keep Warm by collecting coats, gloves and blankets; sponsoring a dance to benefit the Emergency Medical Service; visiting the local nursing homes; participating in Operation Christmas Child for Samaritan's Purse; walking in the March of Dimes Walk-a-Thon; participating in the Adopt-A-Grandparent program; sponsoring a "homework house" tutoring program; and working with Habitat for Humanity to help remodel a house. This is just a short list of the service projects too numerous to mention Betas have participated in over the past year.

We urge Beta Clubs throughout the country to become involved with their school and community. Your club is only as successful as the amount of effort you put into making it so. To obtain further ideas for service projects, contact The National Beta Club at 1-800-845-8281. Service Hours for the 2005-2006 school year will be reported on the form on page F-1 of your current Sponsor Manual. The postmark deadline is May 5, 2006.
