Logan Hammel of Rawlinson Road Middle School heard about Nextdoor, a social network that helps neighbors connect through an app. She posted an ad on Nextdoor asking her neighbors to donate blankets, soap, shampoo, sugar-free candy, socks and soap. Logan stuffed items from more than two dozen neighbors into gift bags and headed to White Oak Manor. “It made me happy to see their faces,” Logan said. “They were shocked.” Read more here:

There’s no place like home! Landrum High School maintains the bragging rights as the only charter to be installed by the founder himself, Dr. John W. Harris on January 9, 1934. Still active in their school and community today, Landrum High School Betas carry the torch of academic achievement, leadership, character, and service ignited by Harris. Scholarship awards that amount in the thousands are awarded each year, a far cry from the first scholarship ever given in the amount of $100. South Carolina Betas, just as the official song, remain “…a beacon in the night”.
